Rites of Passage
Step Forward Program
The Rites of Passage, “Step Forward” Program is designed for children ages 7 – 15 years of age. It is designed to spiritually prepare children for what is expected of them in their new adult status in society, thereby allowing the transition to be a smooth and successful one.
The Program is focused on four primary areas of concentration, clinical, social, cultural, and spiritual development. Each area of concentration is about an eight to twelve week session. The program begins in September and ends in June, culminating with a one week Military Summer Camp experience and graduation.
The modules at a glance

SPIRITUAL MODULE: is designed to raise the psychological wellness of the child to a level of “pure consciousness” of which the child begins to focus on his/her positive attributes, all possibilities, and their internal power. The spirituality enhancement m
oves the child away from a focus on their limits and the negative aspects of their life, to embracing the blessing of their life. This module provides an opportunity for the child to become harmonious and balanced within a shared essence that is in alignment with the natural order. Natural order implies that there is a unity of mind, body and spirit throughout life and that the relationship within and between life are purposeful and orderly.
CULTURAL MODULE: is designed to expose the child to meaningful and cultural events that will enhance their confidence to behave appropriately in cultural environments. This module creates an environment which explores each child’s cultural heritage expounding on their cultural awareness through activities and educational projects that expand their knowledge and resources. The value of family and community is emphasized as is their respective cultures.
CLINCAL MODULE: is a group therapeutic experience designed to assist the child from a troublesome background with the opportunity to identify, explore, process and work through issues and concerns that impede his/her mental, emotional, spiritual, and social growth and development.
SOCIAL AWARENESS: this module is designed to impart healthy social skills, knowledge and discipline that will assist the child into becoming a positive and healthy adult member in the community. This will include problem solving strategies that are effective and productive, life management skills which involve self awareness, organizational and social hierarchy and the discovering of his or her place within the society along with developing personal empowerment.
MILITARY SUMMER CAMP RETREAT: is a culmination of all of the previous modules and brings the group together in a sequestered atmosphere that will further aloud the group to bond, spiritually and culturally. The camp experience empowers the children males and females with discipline and life skills competencies necessary to travel a path of discipline and respect. It is designed to instill pride and confidence. Lessons of military drills, physical fitness, self and social responsibility, daily management skills, leadership and individual and group discipline is a part of the retreat experience.
At the end of the child’s complete Rites of Passage experience the participants engage in a graduation and awards ceremony that validates their complete experience.
